Adventure Traveller and Film-maker
attending Ex Libris September weekend
Ex Libris is pleased to announce that Tim Cope, adventure traveller will be speaking at the Opening Event of Ex Libris on Friday, September 11.
Tim Cope - who hails from Drouin South in Gippsland - has spent his life following his childhood passion for adventure and exploration, including training as a Wilderness Guide in Finland, riding a bicycle for 10,000 km across Russia and Mongolia, and a world-first river expedition rowing a wooden boat 5000km through Siberia to the Arctic Ocean. Tim has combined his experiences with a fascination for traditional cultures and history, and a love for writing, photography and film.
His work includes 'Off the Rails,' published by Penguin, and two documentaries for the ABC and National Geographic. He also has directed, filmed and co-produced an internationally award winning four-hour documentary series for French and German TV, and a six-part series for the ABC that aired in 2010. In 2006, he was awarded the Australian Geographic Adventurer of the Year and in November 2007 was honoured by National Geographic as a 'cultural ambassador' at their annual awards in Washington. Tim's most renowned journey was a three and a half year odyssey by horse on the trail of Genghis Khan from Mongolia to Hungary. What began as a personal quest to discover the history, culture and spirit of the nomads of the Eurasian steppe became a rite of passage for a young man growing into adulthood that was filled with unthinkable challenges ranging from family tragedy to minus 40 degree temperatures on the so called 'starving steppe'.
Tim's talk and 45 minute film will be the highlight of the Opening Event for Ex Libris 2015.
Date: Friday 11 September
Venue: Reardon Theatre, Bank Street, Port Fairy
Cost: $20 per person (includes drink and nibbles)
Ex Libris Coordinator, Margaret Sinnott, said that 'The Ex Libris Committee is thrilled to announce that Tim Cope is venturing to Port Fairy on September 11 for the Festival's Opening Event. Tickets go on sale mid July and can be purchased online through Try Booking. We believe it will be a sell-out event so people are asked to book early.
