His Own Man tells the story of a family who fled the potato famine to find a new set of challenges in colonial Australia. Some of the struggles were beyond their control, others were the result of the evil within the family. An untimely death sets a new challenge for young Jack Gleeson. Western Victoria, particularly Koroit, Crossley and Port Fairy, features in his travels. A “bad egg Uncle” and circumstances see him venture to New South Wales. His adventures carried the Kelpie dog from Casterton to help establish it as one of the most significant breeds in Australia.
